Outcast approached me to create a new website for the team. Our goals were to highlight riders, streamline the booking process, and list upcoming events to help visitors find locations near them to watch Outcast’s shows.

Process

In the discovery session for the site I met with the team manager to discuss features the team needed in the new site. They needed a way to better promote the team as a whole and to highlight individual riders and a better way to book the team for events. They also needed a full event schedule for the team and eventually wanted to sell products on the site.OBMX Site Map and Content Guide

With the teams needs in mind, we worked together to develop user journeys to inform the integration of the features and content into the new site structure. It was important to showcase rider videos on the news section on the site to engage users in the rider’s stories and build excitement for events. We accomplished this with the “Featured Rider” section on the homepage which allows the team to quickly swap out video and link to rider bios to keep the site fresh.

Our second goal for the site was to streamline the existing booking process. To do this we integrated call to action buttons into the homepage and riders page to encourage visitors to book Outcast. These buttons directed visitors to a conditional form to gather specific information needed to book Outcast. Last of all, we identified that an accurate listing of team events was needed. This feature was crucial for the success of the team so that visitors would know where and when Outcast was performing.OBMX Homepage

I integrated a 3rd party solution that gave us the functionality needed and customized it to Outcast’s specific needs. This allowed us to embed an upcoming events section into the homepage and provide a full schedule page for Outcast. During the discovery phase a store feature was requested, but products for the store were not ready at launch. Several months after launch, we expanded the site to include a storefront using a heavily customized 3rd party ecommerce solution. This provided Outcast with a full-featured mobile friendly point of sale for their products.

Results

The Outcast BMX site represents a complex set of needs to effectively promote the team. Our solution met the site goals by highlighting the team riders, providing easy video support, an accessible schedule, and a simplified booking process. The site was well received by the Outcast team and has seen an increase in traffic since launch.OBMX Site on a mobile device
